Hello from Jenna

Dear all,

salam,
Dini Mentari

Hello PATTIRO!
Last March, I was selected as Luce Scholar, which is a fellowship program awarded to 18 Americans each year. The program is designed to give each scholar the opporunity to live and work in Asia in his or her area of interest. Because I am interested in working on local governance issues, I was immediately drawn to Indonesia. I was given a list of possible work placements and as soon as I read about PATTIRO’s mission and work, I knew that it was the place that I wanted to be.
I have only spent a few days at PATTIRO, but already I am truly impressed with their mission, passion, and ability to spark positive change in Indonesia. When I first met the staff at PATTIRO, they described themselves as a family and I believe that was an accurate description. They are warm, inviting, and more importantly, they steadfastly work together to accomplish their common goals: improving citizen participation and bargaining power, promoting good governance, and empowering citizens to become a part of the policy-making process.
I am genuninely impressed by PATTIRO’s endeavors and their wealth of knowledge about local governance in a dynamic and diverse country. I am excited to learn more as I continue my placement here and am proud to be a part of the PATTIRO family.
